Changes to NHS Prescription Charges May 2024

Starting May 1st, 2024, there will be an increase in NHS prescription charges in the UK. The charge for each item will rise to £9.90 (up by 0.25 from the previous £9.65).

I am on multiple medications - what options are available?

If you regularly take medication or require multiple items, a Prepayment Certificate (PPC) is a practical option that can save you money. The PPC is essentially a pass that covers all your prescriptions for a certain time, options are available for either 3 or 12 months.

The cost of the PPC has also increased slightly. The 3-month pass now costs £32.05, and the 12-month pass costs £114.50. These prices were previously £31.25 and £111.60, respectively.

Am I eligible for free prescriptions?

Depending on certain factors, you might be eligible for free prescriptions. This could be due to age, income, where you live, if you're pregnant, or if you have certain medical conditions. You can take a short survey on the NHS website to check your eligibility for free prescriptions.
